Cheryl Carpenter

Director of the Seating Product Management Category at Herman Miller 


Cheryl Carpenter is directly accountable for leading the development and implementation of the global category strategy/portfolio road map and overall achievement of business objectives including sales, profitability, EVA, quality, reliability and market share. She manages the Seating Category as a strategic unit responsible for establishing common objectives and metrics and aligning the appropriate resources necessary to execute the strategy. This involves leading a team of direct and indirect reports to profitably grow the Seating Category business worldwide by creating the right strategy/products and providing leadership around marketing, brand, pricing, distribution/channel, sales and launch. She also acts as the lead resource in providing vision and guidance to the organization/executive leadership concerning the Seating Category.

Previously, she served as Director of Marketing for Herman Miller’s Healthcare business where she was responsible for the development and implementation of the Herman Miller Healthcare Marketing strategy and setting direction for the Healthcare Marketing team. This involved leading a team of dedicated Marketing professionals to define clear brand characteristics, positioning and strategy for Herman Miller Healthcare and its related brands.

Cheryl joined Herman Miller in 2011. Her previous positions included fourteen years of leadership roles in Marketing, Product Development and Sales for Steelcase, Inc. Ms. Carpenter holds dual degrees in both Business Administration and Communications from Aquinas College as well as an MBA in Marketing from Western Michigan University. As an undergrad, she played four years of Varsity Basketball where she was named an Academic All American and she has volunteered for many years at Mel Trotter Ministries in Grand Rapids, MI.  She is married with two children - a daughter who is a film student at DePaul University in Chicago and a son who is entering his first year in the business school at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI.
